Shamokin Grey Wild Tigers is part of Shamokin-Coal Township Youth Football League which was established in 1948. Shamokin Grey consists of two separate teams; The Black Team and The Green Team. Both teams have an A, a B, and a Flag division. Shamokin Grey also has a cheerleading squad with cheer leaders that cheer for all the three divisions within our team. We have one set of booster officers that oversee both Black and Green teams. Both teams have their own specific coaches who coach the three divisions.

Shamokin Grey Wild Tigers came to be because of the lack of youth participation that we were seeing in youth football. Shamokin-Coal Township Youth Football League consisted of four individual teams which had their own separate coaching staffs and booster officers. These four teams were the Bears, the Cardinals, the Wildcats, and the Tigers. After a few years of low turnout and after struggling to field four individual teams it was decided in 2012 that we would combine the teams into two teams. The Bears would combine with the Cardinals. They became the Shamokin White. A few Years later they would adopt the Warrior as their mascot. The Wild cats would combine with the Tigers. They Became the Shamokin Grey Wild Tigers. In Addition to the merger it was decided after the first season to make our league a non-traveling league. It was strongly felt that having to travel for games was a big issue and by becoming a non-traveling league we would be able to recruit more kids and hopefully be able to build our numbers up. The main goal was to ultimately be able to have at least four teams that consisted of all three divisions; A, B, Flag.

After a strong recruiting effort in the preseason of 2013 we had managed to have a much higher registration turn out and had the numbers to have four teams. It was decided that instead of separating into four individual teams again we would stay merged as two main teams and have two separate sub-teams under them each. Shamokin White would have a blue and a red team. Shamokin grey would have a green and a black team. Shamokin White practices in Ferndale. We Shamokin Grey practice at Bunker Hill Sports Complex. We are able to use all three fields during football season which makes it easier to separate the different teams and not have to worry about distractions from the other teams.

Even though Shamokin Grey Wild Tigers consists of two separate teams we are all one big family. We share one set of booster officers which I will add do an incredible job making sure we have all we need during the season and during the off season in order for our season to run as smooth as possible. We might not agree on everything and we all might have different coaching styles but at the end of the day we are on the same page as far as what are main goal is. Our goal as a team is to influence as many kids as we can by challenging them through the game of football to reach their full potential and to grow into positive and contributing members of our society.

We have a variety of volunteers from all walks of life that help teach our youth life lessons. They range from veterans to medical professionals and everything in between. Our coaching staff and booster officers have experience ranging from 10+ years to first time volunteers. Because of these different walks of life we all come from we are able to use our own personal experiences to keep growing as a successful football program.
